Downtown Calgary Engagement Session


When Mackenzie and Dan reached out to me for their engagement photos, I could instantly feel how grounded and genuine their connection was. They had been together for five years, building their relationship with care and intention, and after Dan’s heartfelt proposal, they were ready to start planning their next chapter together.

From a wedding photographer’s perspective, I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful contrast between their personalities. Dan is soft-spoken and shy, while Mackenzie radiates confidence and warmth. Together, they’re the perfect balance, and it made capturing their chemistry feel truly effortless.

Having recently moved to Calgary, they were just starting their search for the right wedding photographer near them when they came across my work. During our consultation, they mentioned wanting an urban, modern vibe for their engagement shoot. I immediately thought downtown Calgary would be a perfect backdrop for their story — a blend of architectural lines, soft natural light, and subtle city charm.

As the session began, Mackenzie’s ease in front of the camera helped Dan settle into the experience. It was amazing to witness — little by little, Dan’s initial shyness faded as he started to fully enjoy the moment with Mackenzie. One of my favourite memories is watching him laugh freely and hold Mackenzie’s hand with complete comfort by the end of the shoot. As a Calgary engagement photographer, these are the moments I live for — raw, real, and unfolding naturally.
